Acrylic Painting Tips for Starters

1. Keep your paint in a workable state. Acrylics dry super fast, it’s important that you only squeeze out a little bit of paint at a time. You may want to invest in a small water bottle so that you can regularly moisten your paint when it’s out of the tube.
2. Be sure to blot your brushes. It is recommended to keep a paper towel or cloth next to you as you are painting. Get into the habit of regularly wiping and rinsing your brushes after each use. This helps to prevent wear on the brush’s ferrule and ultimately fights against paper blotches.
3. Use a painting easel to support your unfinished paintings. Look for other types such as French easels that may come included with an canvas carrier and extra room for supplies. When it comes to an easel, do your research and choose the one that is perfect for your artistic flow.
4. Improve your flow and keep your colors vibrant. You may want to use a flow-improver medium rather than simply water while painting. This increases your color flow with minimal loss of color opacity.
5. Use painter’s tape to support your hard edges. Without damaging an existing layer, you can place tape in areas where you want to make sharp lines or avoid painting overall. These tapes do not stick permanently to your artwork and they don’t leave behind any residue.
6. Experiment with your paints. If you are working in mass medias, you can use acrylic paints as an adhesive material. There is no need in wasting glues or time, if you are working on a collage you can use your wet paint as glue.
The other things to keep in mind when using acrylic paints is both blending and glazing. You want to make sure to mix your colors as soon as you squeeze them from the tube. Likewise, while glazing you should do it layer by layer and avoid any buildup. Of course pre-planning is highly recommended. If you know you will be painting with acrylics be sure to invest in the proper acrylics, stay-wet palettes, towels and containers, and of course the appropriate painting easel.

Interior Decorating Ideas – Decorating Your Clinic With Wall Art
April 30, 2010 by admin
Have you ever been at the clinic, waiting for your turn to see the doctor, and all you see on the walls around you are posters on cancer prevention, reminders for you to do your annual medical checkups, dealing with rheumatism in old age, diabetes⦠the list goes on. All around us, weâre flooded with uncomfortable images and messages that remind us that we really need to take good care of our health. Although these posters are there for a reason â to inform and educate, they certainly add an unwelcome addition because they inject an element of fear into all of us. Here we are, waiting to see the doctor, worried sick that our illness could get worse, and all we see in front of us are images and information about illnesses and disease. We really donât need these at this time. Tell us these things when weâre well, not when weâre sick.
Having been a patient myself (and who hasnât), the waiting area at the doctorâs office is quite a stressful place to be. As youâre waiting for your turn to see the doctor, your mind is full of apprehension and uncertainty as to what the diagnosis might be. The last thing you want is to be bombarded with images and media detailing out a plethora of possible ailments you could be diagnosed with. It just adds to the stress.
Strip this entire media off the walls, I say. Remove every shred of evidence that this place is a clinic. Patients donât need reminders as to why theyâre there. Put in its place decorative art work. Surround the walls with art and beauty. Put some framed pictures on the assistantâs counter top. Having a beautiful piece of art to look at will certainly make your wait a lot more pleasant and take your thoughts away from all things unpleasant. Art may also accelerate the healing process. This is the reason why some hospitals have beautiful art hung on its walls. This is what the patient really needs.
What kind of art to display, you might ask. Well, apart from movie or music posters, because they hardly seem appropriate, almost any other kind of art will do. A good choice would be abstract art. Pick something that has soft, pastel colors that calms the mind when looked upon. Abstract, or contemporary art, doesnât represent anything in its true form, but rather it is an abstract representation of it. Much of it is left for the user to interpret what itâs all about. This will certainly keep the patients busy as they wait their turn. Abstract art will give the place a nice contemporary feel and make it seem less like a clinic and more like an art gallery.
There are many choices of abstract art to choose from. Prints of abstract flowers will add a nice, warm touch to the office. What about black and white abstracts? This will create an interesting contrast with the colors around it. You could also display abstract art of other genres, like collages, geometric abstracts, abstract landscapes and abstract figures, among others. The choices are plentiful. If youâre not into contemporary art, why not use pictures of animals? A picture of a cute kitten or puppy can do wonders to encourage healing and comfort. If you canât keep a real pet in the doctorâs office, then display a picture of one. The effect may not be the same, but it certainly is nice to look at and takes a great deal of stress off the patient.

A History of Panoramas
April 30, 2010 by admin

Early panoramic images were the work of artists and painters who sought to capture nature scenes and architecture in a wide angle view. Historic events were also a popular subject of panoramic drawings and paintings. Though many panoramic images could be found in a flat plane format, some artists, seeking to push the boundaries of the genre created works of enormous size.
Dating back to the late seventeen hundreds one of the first uses of a cylindrical format was developed by artist Robert Barker. The Irish artist painted striking panoramas of the Scottish city of Edinburgh. With its beautiful architecture dating back to medieval times, Barker presented the world with what he called Panorama. His use of a cylindrical viewing surface was a first, giving the viewer a feeling of being part of the scene. These images are still considered a truly amazing visual achievement for the time.
Other artists soon began to copy the style of Barker in their own work. Trying to outdo one another, the size and scale of the panoramas grew. Viewed from inside the cylinder, the images could reach heights of over forty feet. Even more impressive was the overall size of the cylinders which be as larges as fifty feet in diameter.
Modern versions of the cylinder panorama can be seen in IMAX theaters presentations. These presentations provide the viewer with a perspective that is very similar to the work of Barker. Viewers are made to feel as though they are part of the imagery.
The advent of photography changed the way panoramic images were produced and viewed. Early photography was indeed faster than painting but was still a laborious task. Hours may have been spent capturing an image on a photographic plate only to have the image not be properly fixed or otherwise unusable. In spite of these difficulties, early photographers of the early nineteenth century were undaunted and managed to produce images of striking clarity and visual acuity.
As the process of photography improved, becoming more reliable and predictable, creating panoramas began to shift from paintings and drawings to wide view angle photography. The truly unique works of art that were early panoramas became photo collages. Photographic panoramas are produced by pasting together multiple photographs to form a single image that reflects a very wide viewing angle.
By pushing the limits of equipment, lighting, film quality and processing, photographers have discovered new and exciting ways to create photographic images. The advent of digital photography has raised picture taking to an entirely new level. Digital technology has made the creation of panoramic images much easier.
Even the invention of the airplane provided photographers with opportunities to give us images that were impossible to capture before the invention of powered flight.
The introduction of digital photographic technology has advanced the science and art of building spectacular panoramic images. This advance is a fully integrated approach to creating panoramas that utilizes hardware and sophisticated software tools. Digital cameras have reached the stage to where image resolution can meet or exceed that of film photography.
The ability to manipulate digital images by using the latest in software tools makes the process of blending and stitching individual images faster and more precise. Digital images are a compilation of tiny images called pixels.
Each pixel represents a fraction of the total image. Stitching individual photographs together can be done pixel by pixel, producing an almost flawless image. Effects can be added to enhance the image along with adjusting color intensity and contrasts. The result is a panoramic image that has less visual distortion.
Shopping for panoramas and photoramic prints is easier than ever since the advent of online shopping. Consumers can find panoramic prints depicting an almost endless variety of subject.

Interesting Ways to Display your Favorite Photos
April 30, 2010 by admin

Photos of family and friends add warmth and personality to our homes. The more public the photo display, the more creative you need to be to exhibit your treasures.
Every home has some wall space that can be converted into an attractive photo display. Most people view their photos as priceless memories, so why not display them as works of art…create a gallery to show case your family and friends.
-Decide on what pictures you want to display. The pictures need to be close up and clear otherwise the gallery will not be sharp. -Create a theme – family vacation or a special holiday. You can update your pictures on a yearly basis…have a photo gallery party each year.
-Mixing frames of different styles and sizes can be fun, but it does take some planning. Find a consistent theme of color or type of wood to balance out the different shapes and styles…the photos need to take center stage, not the frames.
-Lay the framed photos on a tabletop or the floor and rearrange until you find a workable arrangement. Start with the largest pictures first and surround them with smaller photos.
-Find a friend or family member to help when measuring and preparing to mount on the wall. Have your leveler ready to be sure that a picture that looks straight actually is straight.
Other ideas:
Older photographs add character to your home. If you have a favorite old photo that’s fading, or has been damaged or crinkled through the years, take it to a photo shop to have it restored and reprinted. You might even be able to do this yourself at home with photo imaging software. You might want to consider adding a special effect, enlarging or cropping the photo differently to add a new perspective to a familiar photo.
Great places to display your favorite photos on tabletops, desktops, bookshelves, and your family entertainment wall unit. I received a gift of an oak wood dressing screen that contained space for nine large 8×10 photos…what a wonderful display for my children’s pictures.
Transfer a favorite photo onto a pillowcase or wall hanging. Photo collages of friends or family members make great placemats. Simply arrange and laminate.
Individual laminated photos can be affixed to magnets to put on the refrigerator and other metal surfaces in your home.
For the special occasion, create a photo quilt. Photos can be transferred onto fabric easily. The quilt will need to be hand washed, but what a treasure to give someone as a gift.
Finally, for all those special pictures that don’t make the home display, create your own scrapbook and add your stories around the photos.

Buying Yellow Paintings
April 30, 2010 by admin
I’ve been watching yellow paintings at an online auction site. I wonder where these yellow paintings will end up hanging. There were twenty bids on a painting of yellow daffodils. It was really pretty.
I really liked the painting titled Red Flowers Yellow Ochre Morning. It came in three panels that were each 20″X16″. The picture online showed the painting above a bed and it just looked so clean and crisp. The medium for this painting was acrylic.
The smallest paintings that I found were on a panel bracelet. The paintings were of Indian and Near Eastern rulers. The paintings were put in an openwork gold frame set with seed pearls. This piece was created in the early twentieth century.
Another yellow painting that I liked was Yellow World by Karen Khachaturov. There were a lot of contrasting yellows in it. I could see yellow lemons and a beautiful yellow flower. The lemons were painted so realistically. This artist has paintings hanging in private galleries in over 40 countries.
I can only imagine that the oil painting of yellow roses by an unknown artist will hang in a lovely home. The painting has a nice quality to it. The petals of the yellow roses in the painting seemed to reach out as if they were still alive
There was a nice painting that had twenty bidders that was of a vase of yellow daffodils. The feel of the painting was that of one of the masters in impressionist art. The artist listed the item herself and she is also a poet and songwriter. I can close my eyes and see that painting hanging in someone’s formal parlor. It is so very elegant.
The future home of the French chic painting of yellow, lavender and pink roses must be that of a very feminine woman. When I was looking at the painting, I could almost smell the roses. I thought that the sale price of two hundred dollars was disappointing. I think it should have sold for more.
My search for yellow paintings found a painting entitled Yellow Taking Over. I don’t know why the artist titled his work like that. There was some yellow in this collage, but not much. The painting was done in 1956 by Nicholas Krushenick. It came from the personal collection of a famous photographer that works for the Village Voice. This would look good in someone’s law office.
I wish that I could have purchased the antique oil painting of exotic yellow flowers. The auction said that it was painted in 1897. The pictures made the painting look like it was in great shape for being over one hundred years old. It would look good on the wall of my guest bedroom.
Artist Heidi Vaught had a listing for a painting she titled Ambiance numbered 10. The painting had only one bidder and sold for the opening bid, one hundred dollars. I think the winning bidder got quite a bargain. This painting was abstract with lots of teal and yellow.
Another painting by Heidi Vaught went for sixty five dollars. This was another bargain, if you ask me. The painting was entitled Yellow Squared and it had a really dizzy feeling to it. I liked it at first sight.
I have a friend that would have like the painting I found of a yellow cat. It looked just like her cat. The painting was an original acrylic contemporary painting in yellow ochre. It would have complemented her modern furnishings.
Yellow roses make a wonderful subject. I never tire of paintings of yellow roses. My favorite recently was done by Joan Cobb Mayer. The interpretation was stunning.
There was one other yellow rose oil painting that caught my eye recently. This one was painted by Berniece Meyers. The bloom extended to all sides of the canvas and the center seemed infinite. I felt good after viewing it.
