There is no denying it, I love all kinds of weird and wonderful picture frames. The right frames hanging on your walls can really turn you house into a home. However, sometimes I can spend hours searching around the stores looking for the perfect frame for my new photograph or piece of artwork, and still come home empty handed. If you feel the some way at times then why not consider making your own special picture frame.
Before you can start making a picture frame you must accurately measure your photograph or picture that you wish to hang. It is important that you get the measurements correct, because if you go wrong at this stage you will be wasting your time.
Next you need to gather any materials you need in order to make your frame. You will need, any type of wood you want to make the frame from, picture frame moulding, a handsaw, a mitre box, wood glue, corner clamps, v nails, sand paper and wood stain. All of these materials can be obtained at your local craft or DIY store.
When you have an accurate measurement of the picture you want to frame you can begin to cut your wood. When you are measuring your wood to be cut, remember to add your desired amount of inches to it to create the actual frame around your photograph or picture. You should cut the wood into four different pieces for each side of the frame.
Next you need to hold your four pieces of wood firmly with your mitre box. You then need to cut each end of the wooden pieces into fourty five degree angles. When you have cut your angles, you can lay the four pieces of wood together so they form the shape of your frame.
Your next step is to glue the four pieces of wood together using your special wood glue. When glued you should apply the corner clamps to each corner to hold them together. Next you can use your v nails to secure the four corners of your frame together.
Once nailed, you can remove the corner clamps and leave to dry. The drying process should last 24-48 hours. Once dried, you can then sand your new frame, and apply your favorite wood stain to color your picture frame. As you can see, it is not hard to make your own picture frame. All it takes is a little time, patience and creativity.

These days, picture frames come in all different shapes and sizes. You can get small ones that fit easily on the top of your desk, and you can get large ones that hang perfectly above your fireplace. There are square picture frames, rectangle ones, even circle ones. However there is no other frame as special as the collage picture frame.
As the name suggests, a collage picture frame allows you to share more than one photograph in one frame. It is an easy way to display a series of photographs taken at an event. Just like a normal picture frame, collage ones also come in a variety of shapes and sizes. The smaller ones can store between two-five photos, whilst the larger ones can store up to twenty. Here is an example of two very different, yet still wonderful collage picture frames.
Ancestry Home Dark Walnut Collage Frame
The ancestry home dark walnut collage frame holds 6 4×6 photographs. It’s frame is made from stained wood in a dark walnut shade. It is designed to hang on your wall, and the wall mounts are included, however there is no easel on the back. This picture frame would make a perfect gift for your loved ones, to store precious memories such as wedding photos.
10 Picture clear collage frame
This collage picture frame can hold ten of your favorite photographs. It is made from clear acrylic and has no real border around it. What I like about this collage picture frame is that although it is simple to look at, it[’s still completely unique. If you like big fancy frames then this won’t be for you.
